Artist Bio
The natural life around me has a way of tickling my eyes and senses. Flowers, wildlife, color, and light all have the elements I need to create beautiful images.
I love to draw, paint and photograph what I think is beautiful and can be turned into the kind of art that expresses my interpretation at that moment in time. I am excited about my work at this juncture of my life.
I hope you will be too!
Through my art, what I hope to do is create and share pieces that excite and make you, the viewer, happy and let you appreciate the elements of nature with the art I present.
I was born into a military family that has traveled and seen a variety of different cultures and observed how close many of them were to nature. I loved the lifestyle of traveling even though I had to say goodbye to friends and make new friends every few years.
To pass much of my time, I liked to draw flowers even as early as about five or six years old when we lived in Long Island. I spent many hours on the dining room table just drawing to my hearts content. I don't remember playing a lot of dolls or even watching T.V., just drawing and occasionally, lying out in my backyard on a nice spring or summer day looking at the clouds rolling by trying to see what I could see in them and then rising above them to see what was past them.
As life would have it, college resulted in a BFA in English Literature with music credits equivilent to a minor but did not result in an art degree because the instructor preached quantity NOT quality, so I left the art program. Music is another love of mine, hence marrying a composer/musician. Things happen for a reason and that degree in art just wasn't meant to happen. For some that degree really matters and pays off, but for me as much as I sometimes still desire that art degree, I feel there was another purpose. So here I am now and I have no regrets.
I am now in my thirteenth year of teaching art education out of my home studio (please go to the Art School tab to see my school) called, "Garden of Design School of Art". Here I hope to keep the arts alive in our area and teach the value of art as part of a child's well being and developement. I continue to try and produce as much art as I have time for. I have started painting murals and take private commissions, which also has been an exciting adventure. Being able to see in my head what potential patrons try to describe has been one of my strong suits and the end result is always harmonious.
Please stop by when you can to watch my world grow!
